When it comes to children, there are several reasons why we always recommend working with a practitioner first. Little ones have different needs and may experience herbs differently than adults. They are also physically smaller, so it is important to adjust the amount given, and it is important to factor in the health and needs of the individual before giving an herb or formula.
With all of this in mind, many Ayurvedic herbs can be used by healthy children above the age of two who occasionally need a little extra support. One way to determine how much to give a child is to use a formula factoring in weight, which divides the child’s weight by 150 (150 represents the average weight of an adult). For example, if your child weighs 50 pounds, divide 50 by 150, and you get 1/3. This means you would give your child 1/3 the recommended amount.
